Things to Know Before Your First Work Out

Working out has heaps of benefits – staying fit and healthy to emotional well being. Having a workout routine can help you improve your mood, relieve stress, boost creativity and even sharpen your memory. But getting yourself off the couch and starting a new routine is very hard and most often than not, you tend to quit while you are ahead. In this article, we have shortlisted some of the things you need to know before you head out for your first workout.

Why Do It?
Before you decide you want to work out and get better physically, ask yourself, why do it? If someone tends to start thinking of working out, it may not be because researchers have said that it is good to work out, that is for sure! What is the best motivator? If you are a beginner, consider this question and if the solution is that exercise is something you are going to do to connect with your physical and emotional wellbeing, the motivation factor just kicks in. It becomes easier to be fit, healthy and strong.

Try to identify the reasons behind your exercise. Sure, it may be because you want to look good when you head out to the beach, but that is not a sustainable reason. It will for sure extend beyond six pack abs and improving performance.

Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish
Yes, when Steve Jobs said this quote, he might have meant it more in an entrepreneurial sense, but it can apply for a workout as well! Majority of the people who procrastinate from doing an exercise is because they feel they are not ready physically to do it. This is just negative thinking. What you need to do is, think of one fitness related activity where you think you are not cut out for it, try and find a beginner’s class for that activity and take the bull by its horn. You can only get better from there!

Why NOT?
Each and every individual walking on this planet comes across obstacles in their pursuit of their goals. Instead of using the excuse that there is an obstacle and giving up, why not take a step back, identify what is blocking you and try and overcome it? Whether the challenges are scheduling, lack of motivation, or physical discomfort, it is all about recognizing these road blocks and using it to your advantage.

Take the First Step
Taking the first step always seems the hardest for everyone. Establishing a goal, a fitness routine and a road map for a healthier lifestyle can seem quite overwhelming and challenging, and close to impossible. However, taking the first step toward achieving those objectives makes up for being bold and believing you can do it! Keep yourself accountable for the one goal you so badly want to achieve and take your first step to reach it.
