Ramp Up Your Living Space

Does your living room have a case of the blahs?  Between a fading paint job, hand me down furniture and foggy windows, your space may well have lost its zest. Follow these suggestions for ramping up the décor in your living space. With a little bit of planning, a small budget and a lot of elbow grease, you can transform a room in a few short weekends. You’ll love the feeling of being welcomed home in your new zen-like space. There’s no time like the present to get started.

Clear the room of furniture and drape the larger pieces with sheet to prepare the room for painting. Remove artwork form the wall and curtain panels from the windows.  Select a light, soft color for the space that compliments the colors in the adjoining spaces that are within the site lines of the room being painted. Remember, selecting a name for a baby is a big decision. Selecting a $20 can of paint is not. However, a fresh coat of paint can truly transform a room. After the walls have been prepped, apply two coats of paint.

Determine the focal point of the space. This could be a fireplace, a large picture window or a large piece of furniture. Arrange the sofa and side chairs in a conversational setting around the focal point in the space. Take advantage of the awesome deals offered by Groupon coupons and select new accent pieces from Soft Surroundings. Select window treatments that complement the new paint color and existing upholstery. Hang window treatment three inches below the ceiling in a space with eight or nine foot ceilings. This will serve to draw the eye vertically and give the room a more spacious feeling.

Finally, edit those pieces that will be returned to the space. Overcrowding with occasional furniture pieces and abundant accessories will only serve to clutter the space. Hang art work in threes on the walls at eye level. Limit accessories to a few tabletops only. You’ve just revamped your living space! Congratulations on a job well done.
