When you start your music career as an independent musician, it is quite possible that you will facemany challenges. It may not be easy to manage these issues with your growing career as some of these may even be unavoidable. But you must find ways to deal with them since you love your music and want to make a career out of it.

Here are some of the common challenges you might face:

Social Issues

When you are a young independent musician, there are possibilities that your life may not be the same as your peers. They may have a regular job, going to get married, or already in the phase of starting a married life where as you may not be thereyet. But it is important to remember that music is your main focus and nothing else matters at this point of time. Best is not to compare your life to others as your choice is best for you.

Sometimes, you might really want to attend some social functions but you can’t due to your recording, band connected obligation or a show. This can happen to any professional and everyone has to make sacrifices. People who are close to you will understand your constraints. But avoid ignoring your social life altogether and maintain a good balance between your work and personal life.

Family Understanding

It is also seen that sometimes when you create music online and want to share your sound with your family or close ones, they do not understand it. Try not to explain to them, butcontinue to focus on playing your music. You must understand that they are simply not familiar with the terms you use, that’s all.

Similarly, there might be smaller victories like someone having written about you in one of their blogs. This may be a huge achievement for you but might not mean much to them just because they do not understand how big this can be for you. In such cases, do not really expect much from them. You can share your success with your band who can understand this better and can celebrate this accomplishment with you.

What is important to remember here is that it is not that your family does not care about you or your success but it is just that they are not in the same zone as you at this point in terms of your career.

Financial Issues

Most of the times, the money earned from shows will go for rent, food, travel, venue, etc. There could be even times that you are broke. Try to find other ways to support yourself during these trying times. Maybe consider a part time job which pays at least your living expenses. You can also use online tools to collaborate with other artists and keep yourself encouraged.
