Whenever the subject of steroids comes into view, most people will automatically assume that there's nothing good to expect from it. After all, the use of performance-enhancing drugs is nothing short of controversial, especially when you look at it in the athletic and bodybuilding communities.

However, steroids aren't just for bulking up and gaining lean muscle. Expand the mind a little as we tell you that many physicians prescribe the use of anabolic steroids to help in the treatment of several health disorders. For example, there are steroids that assist in treating asthma and other respiratory diseases. The side effects are, of course, possible increases in muscle size and definition. If your doctor told you to take some steroids because of a health predicament, then you need to have the right diet to go with the medication. Read on to know some of the right foods to add to your plate when you're using steroids.

Protein

When you're using steroids for medical or recreational purposes, you should always increase your intake of lean protein. Steroids work in a way wherein it increases the levels of testosterone in the blood. As a result, it can bring about lean body mass through facilitating new muscle tissues synthesis. However, for the body to synthesize new muscle tissue, the body requires protein present in the system. Hence, you need to add chicken (without the skin), fish, dairy, eggs, and lean meat in a low-calorie diet and cutting phases. As the body consumes more protein, it'll break down into component amino acids. Ultimately, the process will increase testosterone levels provided by the intake of steroids, which would then, in turn, enhance the body's aptitude to transform the compounds into muscle tissue.

Dietary Fats

The word "fat" is a term that shouldn't pass by the ears of individuals trying to lose weight. However, keep in mind that not all types of fat are bad for the health. There are dietary fats that aid in the body's ability to function normally. Eating healthy fat found in certain foods such as egg yolks and fish like salmon and cod will help give proper strength and conditioning to the steroid user's body.

Cholesterol

Like hearing the word "fats," we tend to associate cholesterol with sickness. Keep in mind, however, that there are "good" and "bad" cholesterol, and what you need is to bring more of the good and less of the bad. Good cholesterol can be found in nuts, certain fish, and egg yolks. It's also suggested to consume more red meat in your diet as it's superior to lean poultry regarding lean muscle regeneration and hypertrophy.

Complex Carbohydrates

When you're using steroids, restrict your intake of carbohydrates to complex, fiber-rich carbs. Some ideal examples include whole grains and vegetables. Add whole oats, cucumbers, cauliflowers, broccoli, bran, and other similar choices to your plate. All of these food choices will help your body have the necessary fiber to aid you in having more energy to burn. These options will also aid in satiating you sooner and for extended periods of time. Therefore, it can prevent overeating, which would otherwise lead to fat gain (and this isn't the good fat we were talking about earlier).

Lastly, ensure that you avoid simple and refined sugars when you're still on a physician-prescribed steroid cycle.
